Man’s Best Friend

Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky

This marker in the Cave Hill Cemetery at Louisville, Kentucky, displays the bronze sculpture of a dog awaiting the return of his master.  He looks expectantly at the gravestone in the distance while he sits by a granite bench with a tennis ball at this feet waiting to engage in a game of fetch.  The dog’s head is tilted slightly and he has a plaintive expression on his face as he watches.  Here, the dog displays the qualities that have become associated with man’s best friend–loyalty, fidelity and watchfulness.
